ROMBAT SA is currently in the process of expanding the range of tests performed in its own laboratory under accredited conditions, further strengthening its position as a leader in the automotive battery industry and reinforcing its commitment to quality, transparency, and performance.

After obtaining RENAR accreditation according to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard in April 2025, the ROMBAT Battery Testing Laboratory has continued to evolve. Only a few months after certification, the team behind this technological core underwent an audit to maintain the accreditation already achieved.

According to the laboratory coordinator, Ovidiu Bălaj, the documents required to open the extension file were submitted to RENAR a few months after accreditation, while in parallel, ROMBAT batteries were being tested in an external laboratory—an approach that strengthens confidence in the company’s declared results. These external tests generate independent reports that validate the performance and accuracy of the measurements carried out internally. The surveillance audit for the obtained certificate, scheduled for December last year, was successfully completed. At this stage, the internal process for obtaining the extension of the testing scope is nearing completion, with only one final document remaining to be submitted.

Ovidiu Bălaj, Battery Testing & Metrology Manager, stated that in the first part of 2026, the ROMBAT laboratory will be ready to undergo the audit process for extending accredited testing to all trials included in the EN 50342‑1 standard—an essential benchmark in automotive battery testing. “We are very close to completing an important step in the development of our laboratory. After last year’s accreditation, we were able to perform only part of the tests required by the standard, and once the extension is approved, we will be able to offer a complete range of services at European standards, both for internal use and for external partners, covering 12 distinct tests,” he explained.

We mention that the ROMBAT Battery Testing Laboratory performs performance, durability, safety, and European compliance tests for batteries, including capacity measurements, cold cranking current, cycling, CBRN tests, vibration and mechanical shock resistance, as well as complex testing programs, with the capability to test up to 100 batteries simultaneously.

The Battery Testing Laboratory has been operating within ROMBAT since 1985, and after 1990, the Metrology Laboratory was established. Today, both structures operate together within the company’s Metrology and Battery Testing Laboratory (LMTB).
